During my flight from Frankfurt to Mumbai I noticed the following ad, “Loverdose” in a German magazine by the Italian design company Diesel. Similar to the True Religion Jeans billboard the ad uses a young women in a sexual position and outfit (or lack of) to sell the Diesel perfume product. The emphasis is not on the product itself but the features of the young model.
I did a bit of research into Diesel advertising and it looks like in the past have they created a few somewhat controversial marketing campaigns including “Be Stupid” and their Spring 2012 ad campaign ”Sex Sells, “Unfortunately We Sell Jeans”.
I am interested to compare and contrast these two western based advertisements towards various fashion billboards and the models used here in India.
